I can’t stress enough how important eyebrows are. They can definitely make or break your look. Neat and tidy eyebrows make a person look more put-together, professional, even confident while unkempt brows can make a person appear lazy and messy.

Keeping that in mind, your brows should also reflect the shape of your face. For example, a high arch will slim out a round face, and a heart-shaped face can rock about any brow style. For more about eyebrows and face shapes, click HERE

As you go through this tutorial, please remember you can only work with what you have. If you don’t have enough hair growth, you may have to alter or even skip some steps to make it work for you.

  1. To start, look at the diagram above. Take a thin tool, like a pencil, and follow line A. Put the tool on the outer part of your nostril. Make sure it’s straight and then dot that area with an eyebrow pencil. This is where your eyebrow should start. If you don’t have a “tool” to use, your brow can begin by the inner corner of your eye but this method isn’t foolproof!
  2. There are multiple ways to make sure your arch is in the right place: You could follow the diagram above by using the outer corner of your eye as a guideline (see line C) or with the same tool you used in step one, look straight ahead,  place said tool on the top of your nostril (not the top of your nose, but the side) and slant it until it passes through the center of your pupil. Dot that spot with a brow pencil. This is the highest point of your arch.
  3. Your brows should end in line with the tops of your ears. To accomplish this, see line B in the diagram above. Place your trusty tool on the outer part of your nostril, and slant it towards the outer corner of your eye. Dot that spot, this is where your brow show end.

Now that we have a general outline of your brow shape, let’s get on to grooming!

  1. To begin, we’re going to trim our brows. Using a clean mascara wand or spool, brush your brow hairs up and snip the long pieces with an eyebrow trimmer. You’ll notice the hairs that need trimming because they’ll be outside of your natural shape.
  2. Using the mascara wand or spool, brush the hairs down and trim the long hairs outside of your natural shape

You’re all groomed now so let’s start with the hair removal process:

  1. Carefully choose the hairs your want to remove. To make sure you don’t stray, color the hair with concealer or a bright colored eyeliner.
  2. You can choose to pluck or wax.
  3. Reshaping should be done by plucking or waxing from the bottom of the brow.
  4. You can clean up the top by using your method of removable but never try reshaping from this hair line, just clean up the strays

I find brows look their best when they’re filled in, don’t you? I use the Japonesque Brow Kit (review on that soon)

Let’s fill in our brows:

Image borrowed from Miss Beauty Adikt

  1. With a brow pencil, draw a line under your brow, following it’s natural shape.
  2. I like to used two different shades of brow powder to fill in my brows (see picture above) but you don’t have to do that . I use the darker brown to define the arch by using a slanted brush and literally draw a line from the highest point of my arch down to the end of my brow. If you choose to do this, do it now before step 3.
  3. Using the brow powder of your choice (and hopefully, it matches your brow hairs), start filling in with a slanted brush using soft, short strokes in the direction of hair growth.  If you chose to do step 2, make sure you blend to the two shades together for a gradual effect.
  4. We’re almost done! We just have to set our brows so they stay in place. You may choose to use a brow gel, clear mascara, or brow wax. It is completely up to you!

and that’s it, beauties! You’re now ready to parade around town with your new brows.

I hope this tutorial helped and if you have any questions, please leave them in the comments below!

Great tutorial. I’m still on a hunt for the perfect brow filler. Lately I’ve been using a pencil but before I was a powder and wax combo. Each has its pros so now I just have to find the best brand for a pencil, powder and wax. Any suggestions?

      Hey Leesh!

For pencil, I use a discontinued brand (Red Earth) but I also really like MACs brow pencils.

For powder/wax duo, I use Japonesque. I swear this stuff is incredible! It’s pigmented, no fall out, very smooth, and easy to blend.
