Once we start reaching for a light coat, it’s time to transition into a fall skincare routine. The seasonal change has such a large impact on our skin. It becomes more fragile and drier.
Here’s how you can keep switch up your routine to keep your skin hydrated and skin barrier healthy:
Book a facial
We like to start off every season with a really great exfoliating facial.
Our Hydrabrasion Facial ($199) is the most popular as it uses a couple of different modalities for exfoliating, cleansing, and extracting. The Hydrabrasion facial is a good way to slough off summer and it’s hyperpigmentation from our skin.
Dermaplaning ($125) is another great exfoliating facial. With a surgical blade, we manually slough off dull, dead skin cells, and vellus hair.
Lastly, the Mini Pumpkin Facial ($89) uses our pumpkin enzyme peel to decongest skin. It’s brightening and ideal for clearing mild forms of acne and hyperpigmentation
Opt for a gentle cleanser
First and foremost, you want to opt for a more gentle cleanser. Something that won’t strip your skin of it’s natural oils. Our Dermaquest Essentials Cleanser will provide your skin nourishment and protection throughout the winter months. It’s formulated with pineapple and papaya enzymes, and without AHAs (which tend to be more drying), and really the perfect cleanser for a clean, purified, polished complexion.
If you prefer a cream cleanser, the Dermaquest Cleansing Cream is gentle, won’t strip your skin of it’s natural oils or overdry it. This cleanser is especially good for sensitive skins.
Use a hydrating serum
Our favourite, forever and always, is hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic Acid or our Dermaquest B5 Hydrating Serum is best to be used after cleansing, on damp skin, before a moisturizer. These kind of serums will help replenish moisture and provide you with long-term hydration.
Add a boost of Vitamin C
Vitamin C helps repair the sun damage we caused in the summer, also helps distressed skin, and protects from free radicals that causes fine lines and wrinkles. Our Dermaquest C-Infusion is formulated with 10% BV-OSC (a stabilizing potent, soothing form of vitamin C), 0.5% Ferulic Acid (which enhances the vitamin C effectiveness), orange plant stem cells, and Cyclotetrapeptide-24 (protects and prevents collagen and elastin from breaking down)
Swap your moisturizer
Come fall and it’s cooler temps, we need a nice, thick, occlusive moisturizer. You want it to be rich and creamy to fight against dry skin, and you want it to seal in hydration. Our Dermaquest Essentials Moisturizer, although feels lightweight, is very hydrating leaving your with supple, taut, and silky smooth skin. Our Dermaquest Nourishing Peptide Rich is lavish moisturizer that is a miracle for aging skin. It contains peptides, antioxidants, and hydrators for immediate relief of drier skin.
Lower your SPF
Chances are you’re inside for longer and aren’t out golfing, beaching or horseback riding in the winter, so you can opt for a sunscnreen lower in SPF, like an SPF30 instead of 50. We always prefer a mineral sunscreen, like our Dermaquest SheerZinc SPF 30, because it protects against UVA and UVB rays and is suitable for all skin types.
Avoid over exfoliating
Exfoliating, especially over exfoliating, can be really drying for your skin and strip your skin of it’s natural oils, really affecting the health of your skin barrier. Keep your exfoliation to about once a week and use an enzymatic exfoliator rather than something chemical or physical. Our Dermaquest Mini Pump Mask is formulated without salicylic acids and is highly rejuvenating, rich with antioxidants, and prevents breakouts and hyperpigmentation with ingredients like pumpkin pulp, lactic acid, mandelic acid, and vitamin E
Add an eyecream
Nobody wants crows feet but as our skin dries out in the fall in winter months, they become more visible and our eyes get puffy. You want something moisturizing for the under eye but also protects against looking aged or tired. Apply alight layer of our Dermaquest Peptide Eye Firming Serum every night. It helps promote collagen and elastin production, while firming and smoothing the undereye.
Use a lip balm
Lip balms will help keep your lips from chapping or cracking but not the thin, tinted kinds. You definitely want a lip balm that is a little on the thicker side. Our favourite is the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask, available at Sephora.
