Cost: $34.50
Available at: theBalm, Rexall, Sephora

What is it?
A 9 eyeshadow matte palette named after theBalm’s favourite Matt’s! It also includes a dual ended angled brush, and a mirror.

The shades…

  • Matt Smith is a matte light beige perfect for highlighting
  • Matt Gallagher is a matte medium-brown, kind of taupe
  • Matt Ramirez is a matte dark, greyish brown
  • Matt Mcdonald is a blue-ish grey but not exactly matte
  • Matt Horowitz is a purpley-blue
  • Matt Chung is a white-ish pink
  • Matt Batali is a eggplant-colored
  • Matt Schilling is a blue-ish teal
  • Matt Patel is mauve-y, slightly grey-ish brown

Performance
I don’t have many matte eyeshadows in my collection, nor have I tried anything from theBalm,  so I was really excited when I found this at my local Rexall.

Upon swatching, I noticed how smooth, soft, and pigmented the eyeshadows are. I also noticed that the eyeshadows are slightly chalky. They kick up a lot of powder making the palette look messy.
For the most part, the color pay off is great except I had a hard time swatching Matt Chung. The pay off wasn’t as intense as the other shades, and it is quite sheer. I needed more layers of shadow in order to capture the color on camera.
Without primer, the eyeshadows start creasing after about 3 hours.
With my UD Primer Potion, it wore for 13 hours + without creasing and with the same intensity! I’m quite impressed with the longevity of these shadows.

Overall, I do like this palette. I also love that the palette is compact and perfect for traveling or for the on-the-go beauty! Because of the range of shades (although mostly neutral), I can see this being the only palette I take when I go away for a few days.
During the day, you could keep it flirty with a neutral eye and a bright, pop of color on your lips. For example, highlight with Matt Smith, lightly pat Matt Gallagher on your lid, then define your crease with Matt Ramirez (or you can use it as eyeliner). For your lips, my go-to summer color is MAC Impassioned (neon pinky-red).
At night, you can create a beautiful smokey eye with Matt Chung on your inner lid and the corner of your eyes and Matt Batali on your lid and in your crease. Or you can create a neutral smoke with Matt Ramirez and add a pop of color with Matt Schilling on your lower lash line

SWATCHES

This brush isn’t the greatest but it’s not a complete toss out. It works for eyeliner and for placing color in the crease but it’s too stiff to blend.

(LtoR): Matt Smith, Matt Gallagher, Matt Ramirez

(LtoR): Matt Mcdonald, Matt Horowitz, Matt Chung

(LtoR): Matt Batali, Matt Schilling, Matt Patel

          Please do!
          I’d love to see them.

Seeing as how there’s 12 neutrals in this palette, is Nude’tude worth me buying?

I have to pitch my two cents about the balm shadows. I just ordered this new palette and already have Meet Matte, Balm Jovie and Nde Tude. They are some of the best quality shadows I have owned, work well both dry and wet. As far as buying Nude Tude it s definitely the palette to own and is not duplicated by this new on at all. One of my favourite bloggers actually prefers this to Naked palettes due to the # of light, med and dark shades and the uniqueness. She claims you can do any type of look with this palette. It is one of my fav’s, although I have had Balm Jovie for a bit have just started to really try it and its really great as well as being super cute. The matte palette is one of the best formulations I have seen and I eagerly await the new one I have ordered. If you are familiar with Stila matte In the Know, these shadows have less fallout and are more pigmented. They are small in size and I will be wanting to get some refillss of certain shades, dont know how hard that will be. They are carried at Rexalls, otherwise online site is frightfully $$ for shipping, I have purchased from Hautelook as mentioned. I just had to jump in as I believe the shadows to be some of the best out there! If anyone has tutorial ideas I would LOVE it, have come later to eye makeup and need help please,,,,,,
    THANKS

Meet Matt(e) is definitely my favourite matte formula. They’re so pigmented and smooth, very easy to blend! I haven’t tried any other palette from The Balm, yet.
I’ve made a few makeup purchases on Haute Look but for items that I can find locally (ie. this palette) it’s just not worth it! The shipping alone is killer.

I’ll do a look using the Meet Matt(e) palette for you, Kathy! What type of look are you interested? Natural, day time or more of a night eye?

Day looks please, am interested in mainly day but if you do have any night looks already please send my way. Also with Hautelook the shipping is always 10.95 so its only worthwhile if you are ordering a fair number of items. The Balm website charges about 25 plus the product prices are much higher. I think the Nude tude palette is really one of the beat I have had, looking forward to the Met Matte Nude which I expect in the next couple of weeks, think the shadows are larger, cant remember if I saw it on your blog or not, if so have you had a chance to use it?

I did post the Press Release for Meet Matt(e) Nude but I do not have the product! Eyeshadows are larger in that palette.
As for HauteLook, I get charged an international shipping fee which is 20% of my order PLUS the shipping charges. It’s not worth it to order one item at all!

I’ll get some day looks done for you! :)
