MY 2 CENTS
The Kat Von D Shade & Light Contour Palette features 3 shades for highlighting and 3 shades for contour. All 6 shades are completely matte, soft, and easy to blend.

katvondshade&light4The palette is thin, has a mirror on the lid, and is perfect for traveling. If you don’t know how to contour and highlight, the palette includes a step-by-step illustration that teaches you to define your cheek bones, slim your face, and shape your nose

The top row is (obviously) for highlighting. From left to right, we have Lucid – a pink-based nude, Lyric – a very yellow-based beige, Levitation – a soft peach that leans a little orange

The bottom row, of course, is for contouring. From left to right, we have Sombre – a true taupe, Shadowplay – a soft, orange-based brown, Subconscious – deep brown.

I use Sombre (taupe) on a daily basis. Shadowplay leans a little to rustic and makes me look dirty, and Subconscious is way too dark.
I switch between the three highlighting shades every day. If I’m looking a little red, I use Lyric. The yellow shade helps tone down my redness. If my bags are looking a little dark, I use Levitation to brighten them up, and if my skin is normal, I use Lucid, even for eyeshadow or highlighting my brow bone.

This palette is useful for beginners and even for the seasoned makeup artist/junkie. Although Shadowplay will probably get used the least, the other 5 shades are great. The powders are silky, soft, pigmented, and blendable, I’ve had no problems with the staying power of these powder either.
