MY 2 CENTS
As part of John Frieda’s Elite Members Club, I was sent a coupon for a free bottle of their Precision Foam Color. Out of the 24 shades (from blonde to brunette), I chose 3VR Deep Cherry Brown.
I always go to a hairstylist to get my hair colored but because I had this free coupon, my previous color was fading, and I love John Frieda products, I decided to give this at home coloring process a go.
The Precision Foam Coloring kit includes:
- a developer (#1)
- a colorant (#2)
- a conditioner (#3)
- a set of gloves
- an instruction pamphlet
I’ve used a similar foam color system on my mom (click here) so I was familiar with the technique, although Precision Foam Color is slightly different- rather than pumping, the foam is squeezed out of the bottle.
I actually prefer this to a pump- I think the pump method is rather messy.
What shocked me was the amount of product in this bottle. After mixing #1 and #2, the bottle was maybe half full. I didn’t think there was going to be enough color. To my surprise, there was more than enough. I did 3/4 of my head (because I left the bottom 1/4 blonde) and there was still enough product left over to cover another half head.
The dye stopped bleeding after about 3-4 washes. This impressed me most about John Frieda’s Percision Foam Color. Normally, it takes double that for professional dye to stop bleeding after each wash.
I need to mention the way this foam lathers. If you love lather, the type you get from an awesome shampoo, you need to try this color foam out. The lather is incredible!
There is one fault with John Frieda’s Precision Foam Color, technically two.
- the stains on your forehead/ears from the color is not easily removed with water. You really need to scrub at it with an oily substance.
- the conditioner (#3) smells like chemicals, unlike the conditioner in Garnier Nutrisse Mousse.
Like I mentioned earlier, I’m not one to dye my hair at home but I would definitely used John Frieda’s Precision Color Foam again, if I don’t have the time to make it out to my hair dresser.

Good to know! I have a few boxes that I haven’t tried yet. Just got to be careful not to get it on my skin, lol! At least I have bangs…

LOL yea! It’s quite a pain to remove. Happy “dying” ;)

Thanks! :)

You can prevent the staining of your skin by applying some petroleum jelly (Vaseline) to those areas. Sometimes lemon juice does a good job of getting them off after the fact.

Thanks for the tip, Bridgett!!!
