I tried hot yoga last night for the first time; it was so incredible, so spiritual.
If you are not familiar with hot yoga (Bikram Yoga),  it is yoga in an extremely hot room. The room was 106 degrees in the class I took last night. You walk in and it’s like a sauna!

If you haven’t done any yoga at all, I would suggest trying a basic yoga class (not in the heat) to familiarize yourself with the asanas (yoga posture or position).
I have done yoga at home, on my own, but this was the first time I took a class. I took a beginners class and thankfully, I was familiar with most of the positions. The instructor was great but she spoke fairly quickly and because she had an injury, she really couldn’t demonstrate.
She also gave alternative positions, in the event that you couldn’t do a position because of an injury or your flexibility.

Being a a person who is always cold, this room was so comfortable for me. My bones felt good, my joints felt limber, I was a hell of a lot more flexible than I usually am (thanks to the heat). Just because you feel this flexible, don’t push yourself beyond your limits- you’ll end up with an injury. You know your body better than anyone, if something doesn’t feel right- it probably isn’t.

I would suggest wearing a tight pair of shorts (I made the mistake of wearing loose shorts and out popped my butt lol) and a tank top. But don’t worry ladies & gents! Let go of your insecurities. I don’t have the perfect body (hello thunder thighs!) but I was ultra comfortable in front of all these strangers! Everyone’s eyes were  closed the whole time and we were all in our own world, our own state of mind & body. There was no judgment what-so-ever.
Also, I wouldn’t eat a big meal at least a couple hours before otherwise, you’ll cramp up & probably be a little gasy! lol
Drink lots of cold water or since you’re losing a ton of electrolytes, drink a bottle of Gatorade.
Bring a towel! You’re going to sweat, A LOT. Yoga, itsself, is not an extreme workout but since you hold postures for a long time and the room is so hot, you sweat. If you look around, you’ll notice that people are drenched in there own sweat and they’ve got it dripping down there face. It’s a good thing I mist because it’s a little iky! lol
Lay your towel down over your yoga mat because the mat gets wet and slippery.

There are a few people who moan & groan with each position, but most of the room is in complete silence (other than your instructor who’s, well, instructing). You know how they say “silence is golden”? Well, it really is. The silence is beautiful and it helps you to better connect with yourself. Most of the day, we’re all surrounded by noise, the silence in that room is so relaxing. I’ve never experienced anything better.

I was a little nervous & scared trying this form of Yoga but I am so thankful that I did. I am definitely doing it over & over, again!
Don’t be afraid to try new things or anything outside of your comfort zone. You’ll miss out on an amazing opportunity or experience.

I hope you all give this a shot!! Goodluck!!!
