All women (and men, alike) should know how to apply make-up that will enhance their natural features and hide any imperfections. This includes eyes, too.
Together, let’s learn how to bring forth our best eye attributes according to our eye positionings.
CLOSE-SET EYES
Description: Space between your eyes is shorter than the width if one eye.
Make-up techniques: The aim is to make your eyes look further apart. You need to put the emphasis on the outer corners of your eyes. Apply a light colored eyeshadow from the inner corner to mid-lid. Extend a darker or more intense eyeshadow to your brow bone. Apply your eyeliner from thin (inner eye) to thick (outer eye), to make your eyes look farther apart. The liner should be as close to your lashes as possible and the intensity needs to be at the outer corners. You can line your bottom lashes, too. Apply mascara, as usual, with a few extra coats on your outer lashes. Mascara on your bottom lashes is not a must but you can apply it, sparingly!
WIDE-SET EYES
Description: Opposite of close-et. Distance between your eyes in wider than the width of one eye.
Make-up Techniques: The key here is to reduce the space between your eyes by making them look closer together. In this case, we are going to put the emphasis on the inner corners of your eyes by using darker (rather than lighter) colors. Apply a dark (or intense) shadow to your inner corners and blend up into the crease. Use a lighter color all over the rest of your lid and brow bone. Apply a thin liner from your inner to outer eye on both upper and lower lashes but don’t extend past your outer eye. You can also pencil in your eyebrows a little closer to your nose but don’t extend them at the ends. Mascara is used to concentrate on the inner eye on top and bottom lashes.
DEEP-SET EYES
Description: Opposite of prominent eyes. The brow bone is extended out and your eyes are sunken into the socket.
Make-up Techniques: The idea here is to bring your eyes out. Apply a dark shadow to your crease and blend (up and out) it so it’s just above the socket line and visible when your eyes are open. Apply a light (think pinks and beige)colored eyeshadow to the inner and outer eye, to make your eyes appear bigger. A more intense shading (medium color eyeshadow) on your brow bone will give prominence to your eyes. Thinly line your upper and bottom lashes but avoid using black which will make your eyes look smaller (try grays and browns). Apply mascara to the top lashes.
These blogs are just a general outline! You may find that some of these techniques don’t work for you or maybe it’s just not the look you’re trying to achieve. Just remember that you may have to tweak some of the techniques to fit your specific eyeshape and position (for example, you may have small, wide-set eyes or almond, deep-set eyes)
Well folks! This completes the “Working With Your Eye Shape” series of blogs. I hope they were helpful & imformative!
