Blog

Hello, my beauties! Today I have a guest post coming to you from Madame BLOOM. She is a florist from Toronto and here to make a Bride’s life easy with suggestions for all types of wedding. Enjoy!

ABOUT MADAME BLOOM
I created my little company, Madame BLOOM, in 2009. The name and company both stemmed from years (since 2006) of creating floral designs for close friends and family. When I finally decided to turn to this beloved hobby into a full-fledged business, I wanted to create an entity – a supposed alternate identity to my otherwise mundane life…and in one evening, the name “Madame. BLOOM” was created and everything began to bloom…

I believe that a wedding without flowers is like a wedding without the perfect dress. Some may disagree but flowers have this natural ability to add a beauty, aroma and style to any space. Whether you choose to shower your wedding day with an array of flowers or sprinkle it with hints of floral; your wedding will not be complete without the touch of flowers, especially flowers created by Madame BLOOM.

I also truly believe that every floral arrangement can be personalized. Bouquets, boutonnieres, corsages and all floral arrangements created by Madame BLOOM are uniquely designed to reflect the personality of the bride… and sometimes the groom as well. Let’s face it; we all know this is the Bride’s day!

CHOOSING FLOWERS FOR YOUR BIG DAY
When choosing flowers for the big day, I know it can be a little frustrating with the wide selection of flowers out there:

  • Where to begin?
  • What’s in season?
  • What’s inexpensive?
  • Does it come in my colour?
  • I don’t know a thing about flowers!

I’ve heard these questions and phrases time and time again when meeting with my brides for the first time. Don’t worry ladies, I make things super easy!

Depending on your wedding date, choosing your flowers can be made easier by exploring your options for that particular season. Each season offers many different flowers, scents and colours. This will definitely help you narrow down your options. (Hint: choosing flowers that are in season and grown locally is a good way to keep your floral budget low.)

Let’s explore those options, season by season:

SPRING…in your step
Evoke the blooming nature and gentle freshness of spring by using flowers with a soft colour palette. Flowers in bloom for the spring season include anemones, lilacs, lisianthus, ranunculus, peonies, sweet peas, tulips and lilies. Madame BLOOM believes that by choosing a soft colour palette, you will create light and airy ambience. Colours such as white or ivory, lavender, blush pink soft yellow and light green will enhance the freshness of your spring wedding.

Summer…FUN!
Summer is a time where you can have a little fun with colour! Energize your wedding day with bright and vibrant colours such as hot pink or fuchsia, coral, tangerine orange, sunshine yellow, chartreuse green and purple. Summer 2012 introduces the brave and energetic bride who will dare to combine a myriad of bright colours and flowers in her bouquet. Summer blooms include the gerbera daisy, hydrangea, lisianthus, freesia, snapdragon, cymbidium orchid, calla lily, chrysanthemum, and of course the always reliable rose.

FALL…in love…
The misconception of fall season is that nature begins to wilt and die to prepare themselves for the upcoming harsh winters. That technically is correct, however, there is beauty in everything. Looking around at the colours that the fall season naturally creates can lend itself to a beautiful and vibrant colour palette for your wedding. Fall brides can look forward to using dahlias, orchids, asters, tiger lilies, gerbera daisies, matsumotos, sunflowers, daisy, asters and chrysanthemums. The mixture of deep reds and oranges with a touch of leafy green is a great fall colour palette.

WINTER Wonder…
Winters in Toronto are highly unpredictable. We are sometimes adorned with the picturesque white Winter Wonderland or cursed with the grey slush that covers our streets. A tip for winter weddings, regardless of your backdrop; Go BRIGHT or Go WHITE! I love seeing the combination of ranunculus, narcissus and amaryllis in shades of reds in a bouquet for the winter season. However, I also adore the monochromatic look of a white bouquet filled with roses, star of bethlehem and anemones.

Bouquet Trends | 2012
