As women, we naturally have a difficult time packing lightly. We over pack our clothes, our makeup, even shoes. I am notorious for this. Normally when I travel, I’m gone for weeks at a time so I usually pack my summer wardrobe but it’s too much and I have a difficult time bringing things back!
The same goes for my makeup. I pack everything I use on a daily basis + more. That’s a lot of products and adds a ton of weight to my luggage!
Here are a few tips to packing your beauty bag lightly:
- First and foremost, SUNSCREEN. Don’t kid yourself- SPF15 does nothing!
- Pack your foundation/tinted moisturizer/BB Cream is a small, plastic jar rather than taking the bulky bottle. You can find these at Sally Beauty Supper or Dollar Store. Chances are you won’t be wearing much of it if you’re at the beach all day!
- Invest in a Beauty Blender. It’s the only tool you’ll need to apply your foundation and it works for blending out your blush or bronzer!
- Bring ONE face brush and use it for both blush and bronzer. A medium-sized, dome shaped brush will work best.
- Pack your cleanser and moisturizer in separate small, plastic jars as well
- Pack any body lotions in a small, plastic jar too
- Pack in palette form: eyeshadow (usually a neutral palette will do), lipstick (Cargo sells some great lipstick/gloss quads, or make your own with a Z-Palette), bronzer/blush duos, etc.
- Blotting sheets. They’re easier to tote around than a container of translucent powder
- Realistically, you only need 2 or 3 eyeshadow brushes. A flat, stiff one to pack on color, a dome shaped blender brush, and an eyeliner brush (if you use gel liner)
- On that note, don’t forget to pack ONE eyeliner (gel, pencil, OR liquid)
- Forget about your false lashes and pack ONE mascara (unless you have lash extensions, then don’t bother bringing a mascara along)
- Bring a nail polish that matches your mani/pedi for touch ups
- Do away with your shaving cream and just pack a razor and shave with water when you shower
- Pack travel size shampoo, conditioner, and deodorant
- Travel size body spray/mist that you can find at Walmart or Bath & Body
- Don’t forget to bring hair ties, pins, etc.
- Bandaids
- Vaseline can act as a makeup remover
- Pack your perfume in a Travalo
- and lastly, use a translucent beauty bag! They are easy to clean when spills happen, and quick to locate the product you’re looking. You can also compartmentalize your beauty bag with ziplock bags.

GREAT post, I so needed this like 2 weeks ago. For one week away I ended up bringing 2 eyeshadow palettes, a blush palette and a full brush roll. I probably used 20% of what I actually brought lol.

Darn! I wish I would have posted this sooner. Sorry!
I’m notorious for overpacking so this post also helps me :)

I read somewhere to put your foundation, lipstick, cream blush, etc in contact cases. Pretty cool huh? If you are only traveling for the weekend or just need little makeup for your special day, carrying them in a contact case is small, portable and can be thrown away after. (If you are a contact lens wearer like, you know that we have tons of cases kicking around.
Your list is great! I really need to look into a beauty blender.

A contact case would definitely work for weekend ventures!
and yes, that Beauty Blender needs to be yours…now lol
